AM/NS India’s Coated Products Secure Prestigious GreenPro Ecolabel Certification as Green Products

Mumbai/Delhi, March 5: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has received the prestigious GreenPro Ecolabel certification for its coated products – Galvanized Iron (GI), Pre-Painted Galvanized Iron (PPGI), and Optigal® steel ranges, manufactured at its Pune facility. This certification to label the high-quality offerings as Green Products, followed an exhaustive evaluation process by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and reinforces AM/NS India’s leadership in sustainable steel manufacturing.

The GreenPro Ecolabel – a globally recognised ‘Type I Ecolabel’ – was introduced by the CII to foster sustainable consumption and production across Indian industries. Recognised by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), the certification adopts a lifecycle-based, multi-criteria evaluation model and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 for responsible consumption and production, an essential pillar in global climate action.

Akshaya Gujral, Executive Director (Downstream Operations), ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS India)“This prestigious certification and recognition of our best-in-class products as Green Products reinforce the company’s leadership in lower-carbon steel manufacturing. The acknowledgement also serves as a clear testament to our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and the principles of a circular economy.”

Green

More than 21% of materials used during the manufacturing process are deemed sustainable and 99% of materials are regionally sourced, significantly reducing transportation-related emissions. Additionally, hazardous substances, including heavy metals, are restricted, ensuring a safer and cleaner production process.

The Pune facility excels in resource-efficient manufacturing, incorporating energy and water efficiency alongside advanced waste management practices grounded in the 3R principles—reduce, reuse, and recycle. These measures collectively contribute to lowering the carbon footprint per square metre of coated steel. The facility is also a zero-liquid discharge plant.

Green

The performance of the coated steel has been verified by CEPT Research & Development Foundation, Ahmedabad, simplifying the due diligence process for customers seeking high-performance and efficient materials.

CII’s GreenPro Ecolabel evaluates products based on their environmental impact throughout their lifecycle—from design and raw material sourcing to manufacturing processes and waste management. The certification encourages manufacturers to adopt sustainable practices, focusing on innovative design, resource efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.
